ARTIST ASHISH PATEL

MFA in Printmaking (Graphic Art) in Indira Kala Sangeet

Vishwavidyalaya. 2022-2024

BFA Degree in Printmaking (Graphic Art) in Indira Kala Sangeet

Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. 2018- 2022

Ashish Patel’s artistic practice stands as a contemplative exploration of the human condition, shaped profoundly by his early immersion in Raipur’s vibrant theatre culture and refined through his training under Prof. V. Nagdas. Working primarily in etching and gum dichromate photo exposure processes, Patel creates layered, atmospheric compositions that blur the boundaries between memory and reality, presence and absence. His prints often feature solitary figures suspended in quiet introspection, their subtle gestures and restrained expressions revealing emotional depth reminiscent of mime and performance art. This performative sensitivity transforms each work into a paused scene—an unwritten narrative where silence becomes expressive and stillness carries meaning. Patel approaches his subjects as both observer and participant, drawing from his experience of embodying characters to construct images that feel deeply personal yet universally resonant. The tactile textures and tonal gradations in his work evoke a dreamlike space where the subconscious gently surfaces, inviting viewers to slow down and engage with the nuances of everyday existence. Rather than seeking spectacle, Patel’s art dwells in understated moments, celebrating vulnerability, contemplation, and the poetry found in ordinary life. Through his distinctive visual language, he reaffirms art’s enduring capacity to mirror shared humanity, offering an experience that is intimate, reflective, and quietly powerful.
